“Bagration-2” is a unique maral breeding farm in East Kazakhstan region
The “Bagration-2” company, operating in the East Kazakhstan region, is engaged in an atypical type of animal husbandry for the steppe zone – the keeping of marals. The antlers of these red deer – antlers – are mainly exported to the PRC and South Korea. The farm also uses them for medicinal purposes, receiving tourists in its own eco-center. Danil Voropai, director of the B-Agro company, told AgroCaravan about the cultivation of marals.
“Marals are raised and kept to obtain antlers – antlers. This is a product that is exported to China, South Korea, where there is a large culture of its consumption. In our country, marals are kept in such parks, ”said Danil Voropai.
Reindeer are free grazing – in a huge enclosure, the length of the fence is 50 km. In the 2000s, the head of the farm, Vasily Grigorievich Voropai, brought here about 120 marals from the mountainous regions of Katon. Today there are already about 300 deerы here. Usually, large maral breeding farms are located in mountainous areas, but, as practice has shown, marals also grow well in the steppe. Harvesting of horns begins in early summer. As Danil Voropai emphasized, the dumping of horns is a natural process for marals. To preserve the quality of antlers in maral breeding farms, they are cut down, after which they are dried in a special way. “There are very high requirements to the quality of antlers. After drying, they are placed in a refrigerated container, where they are stored until the moment of shipment, ”said the director of the enterprise.
