In Astana, anti-flood measures are carried out
Employees of the Emergency Department of the Emergency Situations Department of the capital strengthened measures to prevent flood prevention, the official website of the Moscow akimat reports.
In order to reduce the risk of emergencies, a comprehensive plan of measures for the safe passage of flood waters on the territory of Astana is being implemented.
According to the plan, a complex of preventive engineering and technical measures is envisaged, the implementation of which will allow to pass flood waters without complications. This year, when preparing the city for the flood period, three directions were considered. The first is to ensure the safe passage of flood waters through the city.
“At the moment, we have a planned schedule for the Astana Reservoir (the tributary of the Yesil River). Until the beginning of floods, that is until the end of March, we plan to create a free capacity in the basin of the reservoir with the volume of about 130 million cubic meters, “said Yerkin Otargalymuly, head of the emergency department of Emergency Situations Department of Astana.
According to him, it will allow in case of melting snow to prevent salvo discharges towards the city.
At the moment, the capital akimat is implementing a project to reconstruct the Yesil riverbed.
“The banks of the channel will be fixed, expanded, the bottom deepened. This will also allow flooding of water without hindrance and without special complications, “Yerkin Otargalymuly explained.
The second direction is the prevention of the prevention of local flooding. To date, a list of areas of possible flooding has been determined.
“The main activity in this direction is snow cleaning. To date, 2.8 million cubic meters of snow have been removed from the city. These measures make it possible to minimize, to a large extent, local flooding, “he said.
Only on March 11, 2018, 405 units of special equipment were used per day. 323 workers participate in the sanitary cleaning of the city.
Also, special attention is paid to clearing of domestic territories and private sector from snow.
“The forces of the Emergency Situations Ministry conduct patrol detours, during which more than 3,000 memos were handed over,” said the head of the emergency prevention department.
Experts remind residents of the need for timely snow removal in private residential areas and behavior in the event of an emergency.
Timely harvesting of snow can minimize the threat of meltdown in the residential sector. Floods can lead to flooding of houses, buildings, loss of crops and flushing of fertile soils, cause flooding, experts say.
In case of a threat of flooding, residents are advised to turn off gas, electricity and water, extinguish the fire in burning furnaces, transfer valuables and furniture to the upper floors or attic, close doors and windows, block them with boards, prepare for evacuation.
