A monument to the victims of the famine of 1931-1933 was erected in Almaty

Today in Almaty the official opening ceremony of the monument to the victims of the famine of 1931-1933 took place. The event was attended by descendants of the repressed and victims of the famine, public figures, scientists, activists and youth of the city.
Akim of Almaty Bauyrzhan Baybek noted that the monument was opened on the direct order of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev. In the period from 1918 to 1933 in Kazakhstan, according to different data, more than three million people died, including from 1931 to 1933. About 1 million 700 thousand people died. The victims of the repressions of 1937-1938 became more than 100 thousand people of Kazakhstan.
