Turkic Council in the fight against COVID-19

The Turkic Council in the fight against COVID-19 together with the Ministers of Health discussed ways to implement the decisions adopted at the emergency summit. The importance of cooperation within the framework of the Turkic Council between the Member States and Hungary in the fight against COVID-19 and in the post-pandemic period was emphasized.

On April 28, 2020, a videoconference of ministers of health of the Turkic Council was held. The meeting was devoted to the implementation of decisions made by the heads of state of the Turkic Council during their emergency video summit, held on April 10, 2020.,  the press service of the Turkic Council reports.

In his speech, the Secretary-General Baghdad Amreyev informed the ministers about the results of the Extraordinary Summit of the Presidents of the Turkic Council held on April 10, 2020, and also spoke about the upcoming video conferences of the ministers of transport, economy, trade, information, and communication technologies (ICT) and the heads of migration services of member countries of the Turkic Council, scheduled for late April and early May.

The Secretary-General shared his opinion on the establishment of multilateral cooperation in order to expand the interaction between the institutions of the TC member states.

The videoconference was attended by the Minister of Health of Azerbaijan – the current Chairman of the Turkic Council Ogtai Shiraliyev, the Secretary-General of the Organization Baghdad Amreyev, the Minister of Health of Kazakhstan Yelzhan Birtanov, the Minister of Health of Turkey Fakhrettin Koja, the Minister of Health of Uzbekistan Alisher Shadmanov, the Deputy Minister of Health of Kyrgyzstan Nurbolot Usenbayev, the State Secretary of Health of Hungary Zoltan Lorinci and Regional Director of the World Health Organization ( WHO) Dr. Hans Henri P. Kluge.

Ministers emphasized the importance of joint investments in healthcare infrastructure, the production of necessary medical equipment, test kits, masks, pharmaceuticals, including the development of vaccines.

The participants decided to organize the “Supply Chain” and hold a special business forum dedicated to establishing cooperation between public and private companies in the production of medical and sanitary-epidemiological preparations and equipment.
