The  Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev opened the Altyn Zhurek Memorial to the Feat of Fighters against COVID-19. The monument is located in Linear Park behind the Abu Dhabi Plaza multifunctional complex. The opening ceremony was also attended by the Minister of Health Alexei Tsoi and the akim of the capital Altai Kulginov.

The Head of State opened a monument that symbolizes the heroic resilience that our doctors have shown in the fight against coronavirus infection. And this is a tribute and memory to those colleagues whom, unfortunately, we lost in this struggle.

“This is a tribute to our compatriots who fought this global epidemic. The monument is intended to become a symbol of our warm attitude towards all who displayed heroism in this difficult time, ”said Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev. The COVID-19 pandemic, like the rest of the world, did not pass without consequences for Kazakhstan and left its heavy mark on the history of the country. This disease claimed the lives of thousands of Kazakhstanis, our relatives, friends and colleagues. The victims of this insidious virus were medical workers, who, despite the risks to themselves and, realizing the full danger of the situation, stood on the front line to the last, face to face with a dangerous enemy. They sacrificed themselves to save the lives of their patients.

The President of the country announced the support of medical workers. The special status of a doctor will be fixed in the Republic of Kazakhstan by the relevant regulatory legal acts, and a new state award will appear – “Honored Doctor of the Republic of Kazakhstan”.

“The moral and legal responsibility of medical workers is growing, and the demands on them from citizens are growing. Many specialists cannot withstand the pressure, burn out professionally and leave healthcare. This, unfortunately, is a sad fact. This trend is observed not only in our country – the world lacks more than five million doctors. Therefore, it is necessary to consistently strengthen the legal and social protection of doctors. On my instructions, a system of professional liability insurance for medical workers will be launched by the end of the year, ”the Head of State emphasized.

The support of doctors from the leadership of the country will strengthen the profession of young specialists, as well as increase the authority of medical workers.
