Modern approaches to treatment methods for congenital and acquired malformations of the lower third of the face using innovative technologies in Kazakhstan
In 2019, a long-term project was launched at the SNCMC within the “Target contribution to AEO Nazarbayev University” framework of the budget program on the topic: “Modern approaches to treatment methods for congenital and acquired malformations of the lower third of the face using innovative technologies in children.”
-Research Institute of Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery of the Ministry of Health of Russia became the official partner of the project. And in the same year, within the framework of a master class under the conditions of the SNCMC, eight patients with congenital and acquired malformations of the lower jaw were operated on.
“We adopt the latest technologies. If, for example, about five years ago, with ankylosis, we first eliminated the ankylosis itself and opened the mouth, and then lengthened the jaw, but now we have come to the conclusion that we need to do this at once, in order not only to restore movements, but also directly to give the anatomy and shape of the jaw itself.This is achieved through distraction osteogenesis (a surgical process used to restore skeletal deformities and lengthen the long bones of the body).
Live surgery was performed online at the National Research Center for Motherhood and Childhood.
Two complex operations on the lower jaw in children were performed online by video link with a doctor from Moscow. Doctors were forced to carry out a complex operation in an online format due to the conditions of a pandemic. Both operations involved the surgical treatment of patients with underdevelopment of the lower jaw. For the first time, an operation in this format was performed by a doctor of the highest category, maxillofacial surgeon Xia Tong Chin Ruslan Vladimirovich. Moreover, one of the patients was only 1.5 years old. “If in 2019 we invited our colleagues from abroad to carry out surgical interventions and clearly learned how to do it, adopting the technology, then in 2020, due to the prevailing epidemiological situation, we performed online operations. We performed surgical treatment. patients with underdevelopment of the lower jaw by the method of distraction osteogenesis of the lower jaw. That is, we came to the conclusion that we can do such operations ourselves, under the supervision of our colleagues from Moscow, “said Ruslan Vladimirovich.
The conditions for carrying out such operations at the SNCMC appeared in 2008.
– “As a rule, they will learn about the defect at 20-21 weeks. Parents, already knowing that they will have a child with a pathology, are sent in advance to our center for delivery, after which our specialists: neonatal doctors, maxillary – facial surgeons provide medical care to the newborn. That is, newborns with a cleft lip are discharged already operated on and practically healthy. The advantage is that there is no need to wait for a long time, which means both parents and their loved ones psychologically endure everything easier. “
