June 27, 2024
A solemn event was held in Akorda on the occasion of Media Workers Day, which is celebrated on June 28.
Representatives of the republican media, regional television channels, newspapers and magazines, as well as information resources took part in it.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated media representatives on their professional holiday and noted the prestige of journalism.
– Both the state and journalists serve the people and influence the life of the country.
Now, as before, national interests are reflected in the national press. We have a common goal – to build a Fair Kazakhstan, a country of equal opportunities for everyone. I express my sincere gratitude to media specialists for their difficult work,” said the Head of State.
The President focused on the socio-political and economic reforms being carried out in the country, and also drew attention to the fact that journalists make a significant contribution to the comprehensive explanation of important initiatives.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev recalled that at the third meeting of the National Kurultai in Atyrau, he named five social evils that threaten the future of our society: drug addiction, gambling addiction, domestic violence, vandalism and waste.
He spoke about the legislative and ideological work carried out by the state.
– For the deep modernization of the country, legislative changes, personnel decisions, political and economic reforms alone are not enough. We, as a progressive nation, must work painstakingly, every day, to update the system of public and individual values,” says the Head of State.
The President recalled the importance of holding the “Taza Kazakhstan” campaign, developing environmental consciousness in society, as well as supporting initiatives aimed at promoting national values.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev called on journalists to widely cover important initiatives and expressed his position on issues such as economic diversification, increasing the country’s investment attractiveness, Kazakhstan’s foreign policy and the construction of nuclear power plants. The head of state drew attention to the fact that thanks to the systemic reforms carried out in the country, the level of political culture of citizens has significantly increased, and a real and wide pluralism of opinions has emerged.
– Many people still don’t realize, but Kazakhstan has been living in a new political reality for a long time. And this new reality, among other things, is expressed in freedom of speech, open competition, constructive dialogue between government and society, and the availability of all information resources. We can confidently talk about this as a fait accompli of change. In such realities, the role and responsibility of the media only increases. I am confident that the domestic media will always maintain objectivity and impartiality, and put the interests of the country and society above all else,” said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The President stated that building a Just Kazakhstan is not an empty ideological abstraction, but a genuine national choice.
– The strength of the state lies in its people, in their creative energy and patriotism. Therefore, all our large-scale transformations are focused on people, the full disclosure of their creative potential. For us, it is not the reforms themselves that are important; our reforms are not for rhetoric, but for deeds. Their main goal is to ensure confidence in the future and well-being of all our citizens. A special place is given to the media in rooting “Law and Order” in society – one of the fundamental principles of the reforms being carried out in the country, said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The head of state emphasized that all outstanding representatives of the Kazakh intelligentsia of the early twentieth century were closely connected with the press. Thanks to their influence, this area acquired an educational character. He noted that it is necessary to continue the path of the older generation with dignity.
During the event, media representatives were solemnly awarded prizes, grants and Gratitude from the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of media.
In addition, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev presented state awards to a group of citizens who have made a significant contribution to the development of domestic journalism. At the end of his speech, the President noted that since last year, on the eve of the holiday, journalists have been given keys to apartments, and this tradition will be continued this year and in the future.
