Taking scientific research as the path to successs

Taking scientific research as the path to a stronger university, China University of Petroleum-Beijing (CUP) has made consistent efforts to enhance the capacity for scientific and technological innovation and the level of comprehensive scientific research under the overall concepts of “constructing broad platforms, undertaking key projects, uniting diverse teams, attaining fruitful outcomes and making significant contributions”. To date, our university has established 2 statekey laboratories, 9 sub-stations of national scientific research innovation platforms, 23 provincial-/ministry-level scientific research platforms of different disciplines, and 18 sub-stations of China National Petroleum Corporation’s key laboratories.

With particular advantages in petroleum and petrochemical engineering studies, CUP is at the forefront in many research fields in China, and there has been rapid progress in the emerging research fields, such as, the traditional energy related fields alongside with the new outreach to sustainable and renewable energy technology and clean energy technology, deep-water technology, energy strategy and policy study, safety engineering technology, environmental engineering and energy management. Since its founding, CUP has a total of 16,453 articles indexed by SCI (6,634), EI (8,618) and ISTP (1,211), and has obtained 2,017 patents, including 1,485 for inventions and 532 for utility models; registered 752 software copyrights.

Since the implementation of the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020) of CUP, CUP has undertaken 1,467 national scientific research projects andobtained 13 national awards of the three major awards (the State Technological Invention Award, the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award, and the State Natural Science Award), in 5 of which, our researchers played a dominant role, and 283 provincial/social science and technology awards, in 173 of which, our researchers played a dominant role. The number of national awards ranked 10th in 2014 and 2015, and 7th in 2017 in terms of the national general projects in universities and colleges.
