“I love the peach flower” Performance

Beijing People’s Art Theater (China, Beijing)

within the framework of the II World Theater Festival “Astana”

Within the framework of the II World Theater Festival “Astana” on June 23, 2018 at 19.00 in the Hall of Energy will perform the Beijing People’s Art Theater with the production “I love the peach flower.” Capital audiences will be able to contemplate the art of foreign theater, featuring a unique style of performing arts. The theater was founded on June 12, 1952. Over the past half century, the theater has established its famous style, combining realism with an emphasis on the identity of culture.

“I love the peach flower” is an original Chinese drama written by the famous writer Zou Jingzhi and directed by Ren Ming, president of the Beijing People’s Art Theater. Peach blossom is a wonderful symbol of love in traditional Chinese culture. Based on the legend of the Tang Dynasty, this drama assumes the structure of a “performance inside the play”, thanks to which the performers express their perplexity in the relation between lovers.

Since its premiere in 2003, the play has been played 275 times and invited to the eleventh BESETO Drama Festival (Japan, 2004), the Italian Art Festival (Italy, 2008) and the Sibiu International Theater Festival (Romania, 2017). Thanks to the recognition of both domestic and foreign audiences, this performance has become one of the most popular modern Chinese dramas.

Professional theater-goers and critics will attend the performance: Asanali Ashimov (Kazakhstan), Jonas Vaitkus (Lithuania), David Asatiani (France), Beatriz Picon-Wallen (France), Yoshihiro Nakamura (Japan), David Papava (Great Britain).
