Political Dialogue and Economic Relations – in Focus of Talks between Foreign Ministers of Kazakhstan and Angola

ASTANA, September 5, 2018 – The first visit was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Angola, Manuel Domingush Augusta to Kazakhstan.

During the talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Kairat Abdrakhmanov, the sides checked their positions on topical issues on the regional and international agenda, assessed the current situation and outlined the prospects for bilateral cooperation in various fields.

Kazakhstan attaches great importance to the development of bilateral relations with Angola. Since Soviet times, Kazakhstan and Angola have been linked by friendly relations. A large number of students from Angola, who occupy important positions in Angolan society, were trained in Kazakh universities. Experts from Kazakhstan took an active part in the creation of industrial facilities in Angola after the declaration of independence in 1975 was noted at the meeting.

The interlocutors exchanged views on effective interaction within the framework of the non-permanent membership of Kazakhstan in the UN Security Council in 2017-2018. taking into account the problems of Africa on the agenda of one of the main organs of the world organization and the forthcoming presidency of Angola in the Peace and Security Council of the African Union.

In addition, the interlocutors agreed that both countries have the necessary potential for expanding bilateral cooperation in all areas, including in the trade, economic and investment spheres. In this connection, M. Augustu informed about the intention to organize the visit of the largest representatives of Angola’s business community to Kazakhstan. The Angolan side was particularly interested in the possibility of developing cooperation in the mining sector and in the field of railway construction, transport and logistics.

In particular, infrastructure projects “Nurly Zhol”, “Belts and ways”, as well as the development of rail intercontinental communication in Africa will open new opportunities for Kazakhstan’s connection with this continent.
