K. Abdrakhmanov, a Foreign Minister of RK met with J. Carbonier,  the Vice-President of the Red Cross 

ASTANA, October 29, 2018 – The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kairat Abdrakhmanov, received the Vice-President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Gilles Carbonier, who arrived in Astana to hand over to the country’s leadership the Appeal of ICRC President Peter weapon: to prevent a global catastrophe. ”

The representative of the Red Cross praised the role of President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev  in nuclear disarmament and the country’s mediation in resolving a number of crisis situations.

The sides discussed issues of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the Red Cross, the contribution of the Astana process to resolving the situation in Syria, humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, the activities of the ICRC in conflict zones, as well as further development of interaction taking into account the experience of Kazakhstan in the UN Security Council.

K. Abdrakhmanov noted the recent initiative of the Kazakh leader to establish a dialogue between China, the United States, Russia and the EU in the format of a special UN session, which could be held in Astana, to solve pressing problems of economic and political confrontation between the leading countries of the world. Such a dialogue is aimed at ending the sanctions confrontation, trade wars, building confidence, fighting terrorism and other modern challenges and threats in order to ensure sustainable development, overcome poverty, help the developing world.

K. Abdrakhmanov also informed the interlocutor that the process of ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the ICRC on the opening of the Representation of the Red Cross in Kazakhstan is near the completion. It is hoped that with the opening of the ICRC Representative Office, the existing positive experience of cooperation will continue, take on new forms and result in practical steps.

The Vice President thanked for supporting the Committee’s activities in Kazakhstan. He also spoke in favor of expanding mutual cooperation at the national and regional level, including on the implementation of joint projects in Afghanistan, the training of Kazakhstan peacekeepers, the training of law enforcement officers.

During the visit of J. Carbonier to Astana, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Embassy of Switzerland in Kazakhstan, the official presentation of the Geneva Human Conventions of 1949 and the Additional Protocols thereto, first translated into Kazakh, was organized

The presentation was attended by representatives of government agencies, the diplomatic corps, higher educational institutions, as well as representatives of Kazakhstan and foreign media.
