Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan regarding the UN Security Council resolution on the cessation of hostilities throughout Syria

STATEMENT

We welcome the adoption of the UN Security Council resolution on the cessation of hostilities in Syria with a view to improving the humanitarian situation in that country.

We note the special relevance of the document against the backdrop of the increased level of violence in several areas of Syria, including in East Gut, with numerous civilian casualties, including women and children.

The implementation of the adopted resolution will be one of the concrete steps to ensure the safe and unhindered access of humanitarian aid to the most affected areas of Syria.

Calling for full compliance with the provisions of the Resolution, we expect all the countries concerned to use their authority and influence so that the conflicting parties take real steps towards strengthening confidence-building measures with a view to an early settlement of the Syrian conflict.

Kazakhstan as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, relying on the experience of the Astana process on Syria, is convinced that there is no alternative to a peaceful way of resolving the situation in this country, primarily by continuing the Geneva talks under the auspices of the United Nations and providing them with general practical support.
