Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took part in the regular meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council (SEEC), which took place in St. Petersburg.

In his speech, the Head of our state expressed gratitude to his Russian colleagues and personally to Vladimir Putin for the hospitality and high level of organization of the event. He noted that this year has been difficult, primarily due to the ongoing and growing global instability.

In his opinion, one of the priority tasks is the development of technological cooperation between the EAEU states in the real sector of the economy. The leader of Kazakhstan believes that the widespread introduction of advanced technologies and innovations will strengthen the positioning of the economic association on the world stage. He welcomed the reflection of this issue in the “Eurasian Economic Road” declaration adopted today, which is associated with China’s global “One Belt, One Road” initiative.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev believes that a new impetus must be given to the full implementation of the fundamental basis of the EAEU – the freedom of movement of goods. Despite the opening of customs borders, each country continues to de facto protect domestic producers from competition with other members of the EAEU.

The speech identified the agro-industrial complex as another important area of cooperation. According to the President, today the countries of the “Eurasian Five” have managed to achieve a high level of food self-sufficiency.

According to the President, the EAEU acts as a strategic link connecting the entire Eurasian space. And the participating states have every opportunity to consolidate this status.

Along with this, the Head of State proposed to consider the possibility of combining the EAEU Digital Agenda and the Chinese Digital Silk Road initiative. In his opinion, building an improved model of digital and intellectual interaction will make a significant contribution to the development of the economies of the countries of the Eurasian space.

He emphasized the importance in this difficult time of consistently strengthening the potential of the EAEU on the external circuit, developing trade and economic relations with third countries and integration associations.

At the end of his speech, the leader of Kazakhstan congratulated Vladimir Putin on the successful completion of the presidency of the Russian Federation, and also wished Nikol Pashinyan a productive presidency of the EAEU bodies in 2024. In addition, the Head of State expressed gratitude to Mikhail Myasnikovich, who is completing his mission as Chairman of the Eurasian Economic Commission.

Along with the President of Kazakhstan, the President of the Russian Federation – Chairman of the SEEC Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov, and the head of the observer state to the EAEU – the President of the Republic took part in the summit along with the President of Kazakhstan. Cuba Miguel Mario Diaz-Canel Bermudez.
