From November 21 to 24 (according to the time of Astana) in Los Angeles (USA) Days of Kazakhstan cinema are held. At the Saban Theater, the official part of a grand cultural event called Spiritofthe Great Steppe took place – “The Spirit of the Great Steppe.” This event was organized by the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan with the support of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in the United States in the framework of the program “Ruhani zharyrou”.

The American audience was presented with four films – “Қyz Zhibek”, “Diamond Sword”, “The Road to the Mother”, nominated for the Oscar Award, and the film “The Sky of My Childhood”, narrating about the childhood of the First President of Kazakhstan N.Nazarbayev

The Kazakhstan delegation was headed by the Minister of Culture and Sports Arystanbek Mukhamediuly. At the opening ceremony, the head of the department noted that holding Days of Culture and Cinema of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the United States would undoubtedly cause the interest of the American people in the Kazakh culture and become a new stage in the development of Kazakh-American cultural ties.

“This event will undoubtedly remain in the history of cultural relations between our countries! The main goal of our cultural event called SpiritoftheGreatSteppe – “Spirit of the Great Steppe” is to acquaint the American viewer with the rich national and cultural heritage of Kazakhstan, “Muhamediuly said.

Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the USA Yerzhan Kazykhanov, famous figures of art – People’s Artist of the USSR and Kazakhstan Asanali Ashimov, People’s Artist of the RK Kuman Tastanbekov, Merited Artist of the RK Meruert Utekesheva, People’s Artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aiman Musahodzhayeva, director Rustem Abdrashev, actress Altynai Nogerbek, Madina Esmanova and representatives of the film studio “Kazakhfilm” named after Sh.Aimanov.

Asanali Ashimov noted the significance of the event for the bilateral relations of our countries.

“We went a long way and flew to Los Angeles. Our picture “Kyz Zhibek” was very warmly received. We are pleased that the film aroused considerable interest among the audience, “said the People’s Artist of the USSR and Kazakhstan.

Foreign filmmakers highly appreciated the development of Kazakhstani cinema and gave their assessment to our domestic films. On the “red carpet” of Spiritofthe Great Steppe, the visitors of the event saw John Malkovich and the author of the screenplay of the film “The Gladiator” David Franzoni. The Oscar-winning scriptwriter stressed that he had previously been a member of the jury during the Eurasian Film Festival.

“I have an idea about Kazakhstan cinema. Most of all I was amazed by the level of talent. Kazakhstani cinema is different – from simple to extraordinarily complex. The simpler the movie, the better. Your cinema can be called free from the commercial part, and we have much to learn from this plan, “Franzoni said.

The work of the Kazakh filmmakers did not leave the Americans indifferent. After the final credits, the audience left the room full of impressions.

“I really liked the actors’ play in the film” The Road to the Mother “. Strong cast. The plot line is very interesting, it shows that you can love, despite adversity. Besides this, I learned a lot about Kazakhstan from the film, “says Los Angeles resident Brian Mastrophini after watching the film by Akan Sataev.

After the film was shown, a big concert was held with the participation of People’s Artiste Ayman Musahodzhayeva, laureate of international competitions Yedelya Kusainova, Eurasian Symphony Orchestra of KazNUI and the world opening of 2017, Dimash Kudaibergen, who again provoked a storm of applause from American viewers.
