Kazakhstan participated in the World Economic Forum in Jordan

AMMAN, April 6, 2019 – The 10th Regional Forum of the World Economic Forum (WEF) on the Middle East and North Africa on the theme “Developing new platforms for cooperation” was held on the shores of the Dead Sea. The Kazakhstan delegation led by Foreign Minister Beibut Atamkulov took part in the Forum.

The program of the event included such issues as the fourth industrial revolution in the Arab world, the formation of a new economic model, a guide for addressing the common challenges facing the region, the search for common points of contact in a multi-conceptual world and the future of industry dialogues.

The forum is organized with the support and participation of King Abdullah II of Jordan. The event brought together more than a thousand government, business and community leaders to create new ways for dialogue and joint actions during a period of profound economic, social and geopolitical changes in the region and around the world. WEF, as an international organization for public-private partnership, brought together representatives of major global companies, governments and civil society to develop cooperation between the public and private sectors on critical issues for the future of the region.

Within the framework of the Forum, the head of the Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan held a number of meetings where he discussed topical issues of cooperation with both foreign countries and representatives of international business.

The results of the fifteen-year partnership of our country with this global expert organization were discussed with the founder and Executive Chairman of the WEF, Klaus Schwab. It should be noted that often ideas originating on the WEF discussion platforms become the basis of important decisions of an international character. During the conversation, particular emphasis was placed on plans to expand interaction between Kazakhstan and the WEF.

At the meeting of Minister B.Atamkulov with President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Sumy Chakrabarti, the interlocutors checked their watches on major events with participation of the Bank in Kazakhstan, in particular the meeting of the Foreign Investors Council under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan (FIC) and the Astana Economic Forum.

After analyzing the interaction with Kazakhstan, the parties agreed that the EBRD is an example of successful cooperation. To date, there are about 250 projects worth more than 8 billion. with the Bank’s participation in various sectors of the Kazakhstan economy.

At the audience with King Abdullah II of Jordan , the head of the foreign ministry of Kazakhstan informed the interlocutor about important changes in the internal political life of Kazakhstan, highlighting the continuity and invariance of the country’s foreign policy in accordance with the policy of the First President of Kazakhstan – Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev.

During the meeting, it was especially noted that the established warm relations between Elbasy and King Abdullah became a solid basis for expanding cooperation in various fields. An agreement was reached on the further expansion of the bilateral dialogue in such new areas for both countries as the space industry and cyber security.

Gratitude was expressed to the Jordanian side for supporting Kazakhstani initiatives, in particular, on inter-religious dialogue and ethnic and religious tolerance, as well as the active participation of the King in the work of the held congresses of world and traditional religions.

The Jordanian monarch expressed gratitude to Elbasy for supporting the initiative to hold the Astana talks on Syria, where Jordan participates as an observer, which significantly reduced the level of violence in that country and created the prerequisites for establishing the peace process.

On the Forum were also held meetings with President of Armenia Armen Sargsyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia Edgars Rinkevics, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan Ayman Al-Safadi, who discussed current state and expansion of cooperation of Kazakhstan with these countries.

In addition, meetings were held on the margins of the Forum with representatives of major international companies in the Middle East region (Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait), representing such sectors as retail, finance, agriculture, IT, mining and metallurgy, logistics and renewable energy . Following the results of the meetings held, the companies showed interest in implementing joint projects and plan to visit Kazakhstan in the near future to discuss specific plans.
