The film studio “Kazakhfilm” became the first of the CIS countries studios to become a member of the Federation of Film Producers of the Asia-Pacific Region. The decision to join the Federation was made at the 10th congress of the members of the board of this international organization: “Joint cooperation in the field of cinema in the Asia-Pacific countries – 2018”, held in Beijing.

The Federation of Film Producers of the Asia-Pacific Region was founded in 1954 by Shaw Yifu, a well-known Hong Kong filmmaker, philanthropist, media magnate, founder of the Chinese film industry.

The main activity of the Federation is assistance in the development of the film industry, strengthening of friendly relations between cinematographers of the Asia-Pacific region, as well as holding a regional film festival, which is one of the oldest international film festivals in Asia.

Along with the countries with a high level of development of cinematography, which have earned world recognition, such as Japan, China, India, South Korea, the Federation includes countries whose cinematography is developing very rapidly: Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore , The Philippines, Iran, Pakistan and others – there are 24 countries in all.

For filmmakers in Kazakhstan, this is an opportunity to improve, master new film production technologies and the film market of the world in the framework of partnership with the members of the Federation.

In 2017, “Kazakhfilm” has already carried out a joint project with Indian filmmakers, releasing a film of Sachindra Sharma’s “Sushindra Tymegim” (in the original “Love you family”) dubbed in Kazakh by Kazakhfilm, including in Kazakhstani locations.

In the process of work is another joint project with other representatives of the Federation of filmmakers of the Asia-Pacific region: Chinese filmmakers. The film “Composer” will tell about the fate of the great Chinese composer Xi Xinghai, who worked in Alma-Ata during the Second World War and his friend – the great Kazakh composer Bakhytzhan Baikadamov.

Membership in the Federation of Film Producers of the Asia-Pacific Region will open new opportunities for Kazakhfilm for joint projects, which are now seen as one of the priorities for the development of the film studio.

The film studio was founded in 1934 as the Alma-Ata newsreel studio, in 1936 the first documentary films were released. On November 15, 1941 the Alma-Ata film studio merged with the film studios Mosfilm and Lenfilm, evacuated to Kazakhstan, to the Central United Cinema Studio, which worked in Alma-Ata until 1944 and produced 80 percent of all domestic feature films during the war years. On January 9, 1960, from the Alma-Ata Film Studio of Artistic and Chronicle Films, it was renamed into the Kazakhfilm studio. In 1984, the film studio was named after the outstanding figure of national cinema Shaken Kenzhetayevich Aimanov.
