Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s visit to the newly formed Ulytau region

Ulytau region, Zhezkazgan cityKassym-Jomart Tokayev, during a working trip to the newly formed Ulytau region, visited its administrative center – the city of Zhezkazgan.
The President was informed about the current situation and prospects for the development of the city of Zhezkazgan and the Ulytau region. According to the regional akim, there are a number of problems in the region that need to be addressed. In particular, the deterioration of the environmental situation, the critical state of roads of national importance, the poor diversification of the city’s economy and dependence on large enterprises, the depreciation of the engineering and communication infrastructure, problems in the social sphere.
Berik Abdygaliuly said that the high level of depreciation of roads of national importance is a key factor hindering the development of the region’s economy. Since this affects the reduction of transit traffic, including price increases, a decrease in business activity and business. He believes that the creation of a special economic zone would accelerate the diversification of the region’s economy.
On behalf of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the construction of the Uytas-Aidos water pipeline will be completed in 2025. From 2023, water will be supplied from the Eskulinsky water intake to the city of Zhezkazgan.
Akim of the region informed the President that in order to solve problems in the social sphere, it is important to build a state university, a center for additional education, new high-quality schools, sports and recreation centers, as well as a philharmonic hall.
The head of state, having familiarized himself with the current situation in Zhezkazgan and the Ulytau region, supported the proposals made. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev pointed out that, first of all, it is necessary to improve the quality of life of the local population. He instructed the Government and the regional akimat to take appropriate measures to develop the road industry, the areas of ecology and education.
Eduard Ogai, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kazakhmys Holding LLP, presented to the President a report on the prospects for the development of the enterprise and the region as a whole. According to him, the company is ready to make a feasible contribution to the development of the infrastructure of the cities of Zhezkazgan and Satpayev. As part of corporate social responsibility, Kazakhmys will allocate 25.4 billion tenge this year. This is two times more than last year.
In addition, the company will pay special attention to such areas as healthcare, education, and sports. For example, in 2023 it is planned to build a children’s sports academy in Zhezkazgan, including the construction of a boarding school for 200 places.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev drew attention to the fact that during the construction of sports facilities, preference should be given to multifunctional sports complexes.
The company also plans to build housing that meets the new standards.
