Kazakhstan Film Week Grand opening in London
The grand opening of the Kazakhstan Film Week took place in one of the most famous cinemas in London – “Vue West End” on Leicester Square. The event opened with a screening of the film “Oralman” directed by Sabit Kurmanbekov. The film tells about the return of the Kazakh family to their historical homeland from Afghanistan. The film was presented to foreign audience by Nurlan Sanzhar, the famous film playwright, Honored Worker of Kazakhstan, the author of the script for the film.
Erlan Idrisov, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the United Kingdom, noted that the program of the Film Week will open the richness and versatility of Kazakhstani cinema to the foreign public welcoming guests at the opening of the film festival. The paintings will provide to the viewer the opportunity to immerse themselves into study of Kazakhstani history, culture, traditions.
– The film was received very warmly. I took pride when the audience cried at Oralman. There in England – far from the homeland, our picture sounded strongly. Congratulations to all on this event, ”said Nurlan Sanjar.
After watching the film, a general discussion took place with N. Sanzhar , a screenwriter and Dr. Rico Isaacs, an associate professor of political science at Lincoln University, who authored the “Film and Identity in Kazakhstan: Soviet and Post-Soviet Culture in Central Asia,” where he uses cinema as an analytical prism to study national Kazakh identity.
The week of Kazakhstani cinema was organized as part of the implementation of the “Rukhani Zhagyru” and “Seven Faces of the Great Steppe”programs by the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the UK with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as Kazakhfilm JSC named after Sh.Aimanova.
