In Almaty, there has been a presentation of the house for the United Nations. The opening of an office that meets high international standards and security requirements has been visited by diplomatic corps representatives and 14 UN regional offices.

The governor of the city, Bauyrzhan Baybek notes that Almaty is for the stable development purpose. Under “City for People” concept, public spaces are being modernized, including the creation of conditions for people with disabilities. Together with the United Nations Development Program, the sustainable transport project is being successfully realized.

“There are 29 consulates and trade missions in Almaty, offices of more than 60 large transnational organizations are located. Kazakhstan is a peace-loving and safe country. Thanks to the institutional reforms of the Head of State, sustainable economic growth is ensured. We are conducting systematic work to make the city a regional hub for international organizations. Given that the Summit of Mayors is taking place today, dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the signing of the WHO Almaty Declaration, I am confident that the presentation of the new UN house will go down in history of our common cooperation, ”said Bauyrzhan Baybek.

In turn, the regional director for Europe and Central Asia of UNICEF Afshan Khan noted that the new office in Almaty will allow regional offices to continue fruitful work and contribute to the development of Kazakhstan, just as Kazakhstan is investing in the development of the UN.

“On behalf of the UN Secretary General, I would like to thank Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the city administration in particular for creating such conditions and commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals in the entire region. This new office creates new opportunities for interaction not only with international organizations, but also with the talented youth of the country, ”said Afshan Khan.

The UN House is located in the business district of the city within walking distance of the Botanical Garden, the Atakent Exhibition Center and the main highways. UN offices are expected to start moving to a new office at the end of this year.
