Annual Caspian Technical Conference returns to Astana for the 9th time

– Today, the Annual Caspian Technical Conference of the SPE (Society of Petroleum Engineers) opened in Astana, which takes place from November 15 to 17.
The forum brought together experts from the oil and gas industry to provide and discuss ideas for optimizing efficiency, reducing costs, improving environmental performance and preventing future skill shortages. The conference was opened by leading industry figures, welcoming more than 350 Caspian, regional and international oil and gas professionals, including Magzum Mirzagaliev, Chairman of the KazMunayGas (KMG) Board JSC NC , Olivier Lazare, Managing Director of North Caspian Operating Company (NCOC), Michel Boyd, SPE Director of Global Events. In his welcoming speech, Magzum Mirzagaliev emphasized the strategic role of this event for the entire Caspian region.
“This event provides an excellent opportunity to discuss various projects within the Caspian region, as well as exchange views on the latest challenges facing the oil and gas industry,” Mirzagaliev said.
The relevance of the Caspian Conference was noted by Michelle Boyd, who said that over the past nine years, the SPE Caspian Conference has provided an opportunity for constructive discussion, highlighting industry best practices, new technologies and developments in the field of oil and gas exploration and production.
NCOC Managing Director Olivier Lazare stressed the oil and gas industry’s uncertainties and the need to adapt quickly. “In this regard, the NCOC consortium developing the Kashagan field in Kazakhstan is considering the possibility of exporting oil by rail in case of interruptions at the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC)”, – Lazar said.
During the panel meeting of operators and investors, speakers Frode Llones, Head of Representative Office and Managing Director of Total Energies; Konilkosh Suesinov, Deputy General Director of Tengizchevroil (TCO); Matteo Tisi, Managing Director of Agip Caspian Sea; and Giancarlo Ruiu, KPO General Manager, spoke about the current challenges facing the energy industry and discussed strategies to address them.
The panel session was followed by a question and answer session and an interactive discussion with the audience.
