Abay Readings held at Szeged University of Hungary

In the Hungarian city of Szeged, Abay readings were held dedicated to the 175th anniversary of the Kazakh poet Abay Kunanbayev. During the event, the legacy of the scientist, philosopher Abu Nasr al-Farabi, whose 1150th anniversary is celebrated this year, was also discussed.

The event, which took place at the Altai Department of Szeged University, was attended by the faculty, Hungarian and Kazakhstani university students, where our compatriot R. Mukusheva also teaches.

In his welcoming address, Ambassador Zhanibek Abdrashov noted that cultural and humanitarian cooperation is actively developing between Kazakhstan and Hungary and that this year Kazakhstan is celebrating the anniversaries of Abay Kunanbayev and Al-Farabi everywhere.

From the Hungarian side, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Sociological Sciences prof. Z. Dienge and the head of the Department of Altistics prof. I. Zimoni, who noted the significant contribution of the poet and philosopher to the world cultural heritage.

The ceremony also included the transfer of books about Abai published in Hungarian and other books about the history of Kazakhstan as a gift to the library of Szeged University.

At the end of the event, the Ambassador met with the Vice-Rector for International and Public Affairs of Szeged University, Dr. P. Zakar.
