Almost 3 thousand Kazakhstanis showed interest and applied for free online education at the Coursera leading platform for mass online education. The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Center for the Development of Labor Resources JSC continue to accept applications.
As part of an agreement with the Coursera largest educational platform, over 4.4 thousand different courses are available to Kazakhstanis on a free basis. At the same time, the number of places provided by the resource is limited to 50 thousand.
For those interested in programming, Coursera offers a variety of courses such as Programming for Everyone (Getting Started with Python) from the University of Michigan. The course aims to teach the basics of computer programming using the popular Python programming language. The course has no prerequisites and anyone with average computer experience is able to master the course materials. According to Coursera, the knowledge gained through training has a positive effect on a career. Thus, 39% of the graduates of the course started a new career in the field of programming, 12% began to earn more or received a promotion, 39% received other advantages in their careers. Almost 1.9 million people took an interest in the course.
In addition to the courses provided for Kazakhstanis, there are a number of free programs available to anyone. For example, the course “English for Career Development”, which was shown by more than 1 million people around the world. It is intended for non-native English speakers who are interested in promoting their careers in the global marketplace. The learning outcomes showed that 40% of those completing the course started a new career, 41% received career benefits, 17% increased their income, or received a promotion at work.
