A BRANCH OF A BRITISH UNIVERSITY WILL BE OPENED ON THE BASIS OF ZHUBANOV UNIVERSITY

Today, the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek met with the leadership of one of the Heriot-Watt, a leading research universities in the world . During the meeting, the parties discussed the partnership of the British university with the Aktobe Regional University named after K. Zhubanov.

The initiative is being implemented as part of the execution of the instructions of the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to reform  the higher education system to meet the needs of the economy, including by opening branches of leading foreign universities. According to the agreement, it is planned that Heriot-Watt will open on the basis of Zhubanov University three undergraduate educational programs (“Oil and Gas Business”, “Power Engineering”, “Computer Engineering”), as well as a master’s program in Industrial Management. These specialties are selected in accordance with the needs of the region.

“The partnership between higher education institutions is aimed at the joint training of domestic technical and IT specialists. Students who complete their studies will receive two diplomas: from Heriot-Watt University and from Zhubanov University. Training will be held according to the British standard, and the quality will be controlled by Heriot-Watt University. Admission of applicants will begin in the next academic year,” said Sayasat Nurbek.

The representative of the British university shared his plans to develop cooperation with Zhubanov University. Academic mobility programs between the two universities will be actively developed. Note that Heriot-Watt University is one of the world’s leading research universities, founded in 1821. It is ranked among the top 300 universities in the QS World Rankings for Mathematics, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Oil and Gas.
