Chairman of the Board of the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of the Republic of Kazakhstan “Atameken” Raimbek Batalov took part in the 28th International Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

The 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is taking place from November 30 to December 12 in Dubai, UAE. The international conference brings together almost 200 countries participating in the Paris Agreement.

On December 1, the official opening of the Central Asia pavilion took place and the first panel session was held dedicated to the low-carbon development potential of Kazakhstan.

The event was attended by the Chairman of the Board of the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of the Republic of Kazakhstan “Atameken” Raimbek Batalov. He emphasized the importance of Kazakhstan’s desire for sustainable development and the implementation of “green” business projects.

“We understand that the issues of the green transition, achieving sustainable development goals and introducing appropriate technologies have long gone beyond just the climate agenda. Already today they are inextricably linked with issues of investment and international trade, a comprehensive restructuring of the structure of the economies of countries, cities and regional development,” said Raimbek Batalov.

He also noted that goals to achieve carbon neutrality will require large-scale sectoral legislative changes and the introduction of government support measures and emphasized the readiness of the Atameken National Chamber to help improve the legislative and regulatory framework.

The chairman of the presidium paid special attention to carbon projects.

“We believe that carbon sequestration projects, including sustainable afforestation and sustainable agriculture, are currently undervalued. At the same time, Kazakhstan, being the ninth largest country in the world, has enormous potential for the development of carbon farming projects,” added the head of the National Chamber.

At the international conference COP 28, Raimbek Batalov officially announced the creation of the Council for Sustainable Development and ESG at the National Chamber, which currently includes more than 50 key economic players.

“The Council will serve as a negotiating platform for developing further decisions on the implementation of the country’s commitments within the framework of a sustainable agenda. Also, as part of the Council’s activities, issues of replicating successful practices and promoting the development of the market for “green” and sustainable projects will be worked out,” Batalov said.

The Sustainable Development and ESG Council was headed by Yulia Yakupbaeva, who also attended the COP 28 Conference as part of the official delegation.
