Kazakhstan  President  took part in the “Financing for Development in the Age of COVID-19 and Beyond” High-Level Event 

The virtual forum was held at the initiative of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Prime Ministers of Canada and Jamaica Justin Trudeau and Andrew Holness. The event was dedicated to the consolidation of international efforts to mitigate the effects of COVID-19 and post-crisis recovery.
Speaking as Chairman of the Group of Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev drew the attention of the world community to the fact that “the pandemic threatened the development of all states, while LLDC countries were among the most affected by the reduction in external financing, trade, and investment. ”
In this context, the Kazakhstani leader called for the consolidation of international efforts to solve the problems of growing external debt of developing countries, “digital inequality”, providing access to clean drinking water, green and modern agricultural technologies.
At the national level, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev noted Kazakhstan’s contribution to the implementation of the UN Global Plan for Humanitarian Response and assistance to a number of foreign countries to combat coronavirus. The head of state reaffirmed our country’s commitment to efforts to strengthen global food security, resolve international conflicts, and peacebuilding.
The forum was attended by the leaders of Germany, France, South Africa, Japan, Italy, Great Britain, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, Saudi Arabia, and other states, leaders of the IMF, OECD, World Bank, as well as a number of international financial institutions.

The head of state received the chairman of the board of JSC “National Welfare Fund“ Samruk-Kazyna ”Akhmetzhan Yesimov

The President of Kazakhstan was informed about the current situation in the group of companies. According to Akhmetzhan Yesimov, from the beginning of the crisis and the quarantine period, manufacturing enterprises located in the perimeter of the Samruk-Kazyna group of companies did not allow job cuts and delayed payment of wages.

Previous measures to increase the financial stability of the fund and the group of companies allowed to reduce the external debt accumulated over the previous years by $ 8 billion. This prevented losses in the amount of 1 trillion tenge. $ 1 billion optimized capital and operating expenses.

The Fund is working on the execution of the order of Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev on supporting the country’s economy through the procurement system. Since the beginning of 2020, the Samruk-Kazyna group of companies placed 9 thousand orders at domestic enterprises, which employ 259 thousand people. In addition, a program to support Kazakhstani enterprises and the creation of new industries are being implemented.

The fund manager also reported on the progress of the privatization program.

Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev had a telephone talk with Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation on the initiative of the Russian side. The parties exchanged information on the current pandemic situation and measures taken by countries to combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
A number of topical issues of bilateral cooperation and interaction within the EAEU were also discussed.
At the end of the conversation, Vladimir Putin invited Kazakhstan President to take part in the Victory Parade to be held in Moscow on June 24 as an honored guest. The invitation was gratefully accepted.

The head of state received Natalia Godunova, the chairman of the Accounts Committee for Monitoring the Implementation of the Republican Budget.

The President was informed about the monitoring of the spending of funds allocated for anti-crisis measures in Kazakhstan in connection with the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the head of the Accounts Committee, control includes two stages. At first, together with the Ministry of Finance, public procurement verification and cameral control are carried out. At the second stage, the Accounts Committee reviews the administrators of budget programs in all 17 regions of the country.
Kassym-Jomart Tokaev instructed to continue work on ensuring the targeted spending of budgetary financial resources aimed at healthcare, the implementation of the Employment Roadmap, support for vulnerable segments of the population, and to report on the results of inspections on an ongoing basis.
The head of state was also familiarized with the content of the conclusion on the implementation of the republican budget for 2019. Along with this, the Audit Committee conducted an audit of the consolidated financial statements for the first time.
Following the meeting, the President gave a number of specific instructions.

Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev had a telephone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan

The heads of state exchanged warm congratulations on the occasion of the holy day for all Muslims, Oraza Ait, and wished the fraternal people of Kazakhstan and Turkey prosperity.
During the conversation, the Presidents discussed practical measures taken by the governments of the two countries in the fight against COVID-19. Recep Tayyip Erdogan highly appreciated the actions of Kazakhstan to prevent the spread of viral infection, to provide large-scale assistance to citizens, small and medium-sized businesses.
In turn, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev thanked the Turkish leader for supporting and providing humanitarian assistance in the form of personal protective equipment. The heads of state reaffirmed their intention to continue close cooperation in this area.
Along with this, the parties examined the state and prospects of the development of Kazakh-Turkish relations, emphasizing the importance of building up mutual trade turnover and implementing joint investment projects.
Touching upon issues of cooperation within the framework of the Turkic world, the leaders of Kazakhstan and Turkey noted the successful activities of the Turkic Academy, created exactly 10 years ago.
At the end of the conversation, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev invited the President of Turkey to visit Kazakhstan.
