Algeria signed an Agreement on the participation in the “EXPO-2017”
November 24, 2016 Rapil Zhoshybayev, the Commissioner of “EXPO-2017” visited the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria (Algeria). During the visit, meetings were held with the Minister of State – Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Algeria Ramtanom Commissioner Lamamra and national section responsible for Algeria’s participation in the “EXPO-2017” – Charge d’Affaires of the Prime Minister of Algeria Shakib Mustafa Khalifa.
During the meeting, the Foreign Ministry of Algeria and R. R. Zhoshybayev discussed bilateral cooperation. The sides exchanged views on topical issues of the international agenda. The diplomats noted the similarity of the positions of Astana and Algeria on major international and regional issues. The sides confirmed their willingness to establish closer cooperation and mutual support of candidacies within international organizations.
R. Lamamra said that the EXPO in Astana will contribute to the inflow of new technologies and improve the image of Kazakhstan in the international arena. Algerian minister also expressed hope that the summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Science and Technology within the framework of “EXPO-2017” will give impetus to the strengthening of cooperation in the field of sustainable development and energy efficiency of the OIC countries.
During a meeting with the Algerian Commissioner R. Zhoshybayev spoke about the work being done on the organization of the exhibition, he noted the great experience of Algeria’s participation in various international exhibitions and “gold medals” obtained by the country for the best opening theme in the past, “EXPO 2010” in Shanghai and “EXPO -2015 “in Milan.
In turn, M. Khalifa said that on July 4, 2017, Algeria is planning to hold its national day at “EXPO-2017”. Algerian Commissioner expressed confidence that the “Energy of the Future” proposed by Kazakhstan will help the solution of global problems of environmental threats and lack of energy, and “EXPO-2017” will be for the countries around the world, including Africa, a platform showcasing their achievements and the latest developments in the field of energy.
According to M. Khalifa, Algeria adopted a national program for the development of renewable energy sources, according to which it is planned to increase the share of renewable energy in the total energy mix to 27% by 2030. The Government has announced a plan for the commissioning of the 13.5 GW of solar PV capacity by 2030.
Following the meeting, R. and M. Zhoshybayev Khalifa signed the Agreement on the participation of the Algerian side in the International specialized exhibition “EXPO-2017”.
