St. Petersburg, Russia
As part of a working trip to the Russian Federation, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev together with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon, Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyo ev visited a number of cultural sites of St. Petersburg.
The leaders of the CIS countries began their joint excursion with a visit to the Pavlovsk State Museum-Reserve, where they toured the halls and exhibitions of the Pavlovsk Palace. The “Northern Symphony” concert was organized for the guests of honor in the amphitheater of the Greek Hall of the palace complex. The museum-reserve is a unique example of Russian architecture of the late 18th century. The key detail of the ensemble is the Pavlovsk Palace, which is a cultural heritage monument and is protected by UNESCO.
Then the heads of state visited the Tsarskoye Selo museum-reserve and toured the halls of the Catherine Palace. The Tsarskoye Selo palace and park ensemble is a recognized masterpiece of architecture and landscape art of the 18th – early 20th centuries. The former summer residence of Russian emperors is one of the most visited museums in Russia, visited by 2.9 million people in 2022. In the Catherine Palace, which is the central building of Tsarskoye Selo, there is the legendary Amber Room.
The third point of the excursion was the Great Peterhof Palace of the Peterhof State Museum-Reserve.
The heads of the delegations toured the halls of the unique architectural monument, filled with objects of decorative and applied art, works of sculpture and painting. The Peterhof Museum-Reserve has 33 museums, 414 hectares of parks and gardens, and more than 150 fountains. The uniqueness of the fountain system as a historical and cultural monument is the absence of pumping stations. Just like 300 years ago, thanks to engineering, water flows due to the natural difference in height between the hill and the level at which the fountains are located. That is why the Peterhof fountains work every day from morning to evening from late April to mid-October.
