The VII BAIQONYR International Short Film Festival will host in Almaty
From September 7th to 11th, the 7th BAIQONYR International Short Film Festival will be held in Almaty. This is the first and possibly the only film festival to be held this year in Kazakhstan – other major festivals like Eurasia and the Almaty Film Festival have not yet been held after the pandemic.
Recall that Baiqonyr is the first international short film festival in Kazakhstan, which for seven years now has not only opened up new names of domestic cinema, but has provided constant support and international promotion of the creative youth of Kazakhstan. For six years, Baiqonyr has been visited by more than 11,000 viewers who have watched over 240 films. The selection committee looked after 1168 applications, and the jury of the festival awarded 62 laureates.
This year the festival will open with the premiere of one of the most anticipated films of the year – DOS-MUKASAN (directed by Aydin Sakhaman, produced by Aray Media Group), which tells the story of the creation of the legendary ensemble. And at the closing will be shown “The LAST SESSION” by Darezhan Omirbaev, the world premiere of which took place recently at the 75th anniversary festival in Locarno, Switzerland.
The program of the upcoming festival consists of three competitions – national (feature and documentary short films), international (feature and documentary short films) and animation.
– Out of 306 announced film projects, our program service, including film experts Yerzhan Zhumabekov, Enlik Egeubayeva, Akerke Kamashbek, director Raiymbek Alzhanov and director-animator Ivan Ardashov, selected 48 projects for participation in the festival, – says the president of the film festival Anuar KENZHIBAEV. Also this year, the festival will be visited by the Expedition movement from Kyrgyzstan. This is a group of various directors who make short films about their contemporaries, ordinary people, about their problems and dreams. About 50 young directors take part in the movement.
The Baiqonyr festival is traditionally organized by the country’s leading film portal – Broadway (brod.kz). The main venue of the festival is the Arman cinema center.
The festival will be held with the support of the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation of the CIS member states. Information support is provided by National Company Kazakh Tourism JSC.
