Public signing of the Decree “On some issues of the administrative and territorial structure of the Republic of Kazakhstan”

The head of state, speaking at the signing ceremony of the decree, noted that Shymkent, along with Astana and Almaty, became one of Kazakhstan’s cities with a population of over one million people.
– In accordance with Clause 1 of Article 3 of the Law “On the Administrative and Territorial Structure of the Republic of Kazakhstan”, the decree signed by me today assigns Shymkent the status of a city of republican significance. This administrative unit will be the seventeenth region of our country. The regional center is the city of Turkestan, which for centuries has been the heart of the political and spiritual life of the Kazakh Khanate and the entire Turkic world, “said the President of Kazakhstan.

Nursultan Nazarbayev stressed that the newly formed Turkestan region has all the opportunities for the qualitative implementation of new administrative functions, and noted the important historical significance of the decision.

– Shymkent will become a new center of attraction of investments, technologies and intellectual resources not only of our country, but of the entire Central Asian region. For this, there are all the conditions and the necessary potential, “the Head of State said.

The President of Kazakhstan expressed his confidence that Shymkent’s acquisition of the republican status will contribute to its further successful advancement and will open new unique prospects for the city.

“This step will give a steady impetus to the balanced social and economic development of the city and a consistent improvement in the quality of life of the inhabitants of the entire region,” Nursultan Nazarbayev said.

At the end of the signing ceremony, the Head of State gave specific instructions to the Presidential Administration, the Government and the akimat of the region on the qualitative and efficient implementation of the Decree, as well as to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of local state bodies and organizations.
