Meeting with Valentina Matvienko, Chairman of the Council of Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation

The President of Kazakhstan, Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev, in the framework of his official visit to Russia, visited the Council of Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, where he met with Valentina Matvienko, the Chairman,  and left an entry in the Guests of Honor Book.

During the meeting, the Head of State stressed the symbolism of his first foreign visit to Russia, noting that he is evident of a high level of bilateral cooperation based on mutual respect and trust.

“My task, as a new President of Kazakhstan, is to ensure the continuity of the strategic course of Nursultan Nazarbayev, who has done a lot for the development of allied relations between our countries,” said Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev.

Highly appreciating the activities of Valentina Matvienko as chairman of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev thanked the Speaker of the Federation Council for working together to strengthen inter-state parliamentary relations and fruitful cooperation through international structures.

In addition, the Head of State dwelt separately on the issues of expanding interaction within the integration agenda of the two countries.

– On May 29, the anniversary summit of the Eurasian Economic Union will be held in Nur-Sultan. As President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, I will maximally promote the development of Eurasian integration. I believe that the parliaments of our states can play a very important role in these processes, the President of Kazakhstan said.

In turn, the Chairman of the Council of the Federation noted the importance of strengthening inter-parliamentary relations and expressed confidence that the visit of the Head of State would give a new positive impetus to the Kazakhstan-Russian strategic partnership.

– I am very pleased that, despite your busy schedule, you took the time to visit the Federation Council. I want to thank you personally for your contribution to the development of bilateral parliamentary cooperation and cooperation within the framework of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.

Valentina Matvienko also informed Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev about the scheduled IPA meeting scheduled for April of this year, to which the Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Dariga Nazarbayeva was invited.

At the end of the meeting, the interlocutors exchanged views on a wide range on issues of bilateral cooperation.
