The governor of Almaty congratulated citizens on Independence Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan

A solemn meeting on the eve of the Independence Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan was held in Almaty. In accordance with the Decree of the Head of State, the governor of the city, Bauyrzhan Baybek, presented state awards to Almaty citizens, who made a significant contribution to the development of the country.

“With our President, independent Kazakhstan adopted its Constitution, state symbols, national currency, having erected a new capital in the very heart of Eurasia. Astana is a feat of Nursultan Nazarbayev, who is forever written in golden letters in the history of the country. Almaty remains the golden cradle of our independence. Thanks to the special attention and support of the Head of State, the city’s economy is constantly growing. If at the dawn of independence, the share in the country’s GDP was only 10%, today Almaty forms a fifth of the economy, ”Bauyrzhan Baybek said in his welcoming speech.

He noted that the city is focused on the best world practices, as well as the Sustainable Development Goals and OECD standards. The Almaty budget approved for the next year, approved yesterday by the city maslikhat, is structured in accordance with the implementation of the Address of the Head of State and the Almaty 2020 Program. In particular, 40% of the actual budget will be spent on social financing, 23% is provided for public transport projects, road infrastructure and the reconstruction of city streets.

In the course of the solemn assembly, in accordance with the Decree of the Head of State, state awards were presented to 110 Almaty residents representing the spheres of education, culture, health care, business and industry. In addition, representatives of civil society and the media, as well as experts in the field of transport, construction, energy and finance, were honored with high awards.
