Megan Barnett Bloomgren serves as the senior vice president of Communications at the American Petroleum Institute (API), where she leverages her two decades of public affairs experience to direct communications on behalf of the U.S. natural gas and oil industry, including overseeing research activity, paid media campaigns, earned and digital media, and thought leadership.

Prior to joining API, Ms. Bloomgren served as acting Deputy Chief of Staff and Communications Director at the U.S. Department of the Interior, where she directed communications and media, strategic planning, and policy-related actions. Ms. Bloomgren worked on the Presidential Transition Team with the Interior Secretary nominee to prepare for confirmation hearings and first 100 days, including managing all aspects of earned and digital media, rapid response and coalition building.

Ms. Bloomgren was previously a partner at a public affairs consulting firm where she led global communications campaigns on energy, chemical, and regulatory issues and specialized in message development, crisis communications, coalition building and grassroots advocacy.

Earlier in her career, Ms. Bloomgren directed strategy and operations for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Global Energy Institute. She previously served as chief spokesperson for the Secretary of Energy, worked as the deputy director of communications at the White House Council on Environmental Quality in the Executive Office of the President, and was deputy press secretary at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Through her government service, she supported federal communications efforts in more than a dozen countries in Asia, the Middle East, Europe and Africa. Ms. Bloomgren got her start working on Congressional campaigns in Pennsylvania and served on the Bush-Cheney 2000 campaign and 2004 re-elect. Ms. Bloomgren also spent three years as a consultant in Accenture’s state and local government practice.

Ms. Bloomgren is a proud native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and graduate of La Salle University where she served on the university’s board of trustees. She and her family reside in McLean, VA.
