-In 2012 Samsung has numerously been acknowledged with the national “Choice of the year” award in a number of categories. Can You comment on it?
As far as Kazakhstan is concerned, Samsung has numerously been acknowledged with the national “Choice of the year” award in a number of categories, including the “most preferred consumer electronics brand” in 2012.We have continued our market leadership in 2013 securing #1 position in the following categories: panel TVs, digital smart cameras (, monitors, microwave ovens, refrigerators, vacuum cleaners as well as smart phone and tablet markets led by our flagship models such as Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Tab 10.1 2014 edition*.
-Evidently, no business can achieve long-term success relying solely on its products. What is Samsung have been cherished by?
Samsung cherishes the expertise and knowledge of our Kazakhstani partners as well as loyalty, forward-thinking and sophistication of the local consumers. We always listen closely to their concerns, suggestions and expectations to give back in full. Our mission is to inspire the world through innovative technologies that enrich people’s lives and contribute to a better global society.
– What is the current state of the ICT sector, key challenges and opportunities? What are the vision and strategies of the company?
Needless to say that we will strive to secure our market leadership and continue bringing in new superior products and services to inspire and enrich people’s lives. However this is just one of the traditional dimensions Samsung has been working in for years. I would like to take this opportunity to talk about our new key strategic directions: Business Enterprise development and Social initiatives – that have taken off in 2013 and will be expanded significantly in 2014.
The company’s decision to expand to the business market has been caused by a number of trends that have emerged during the past few years, driven by the success of smart devices and on-demand services. It is important for businesses to stay relevant in the environment, where the usage of mobile devices is taking off in the workplace, social media continues to infiltrate the enterprise and the majority of consumer applications – from video conferencing to file-sharing – are becoming default business tools.
-Are there new trends and innovations In the light of recent transformations?
Samsung is not simply providing B2B solutions, but has set out to pioneer the New Business Experience in recognition of such trends like the computerization of IT and “Bring-Your-Own Device” that are changing the IT landscape. Together with our partners we provide secure solutions and devices that are tailor-made for enterprise needs and a range of specific industries – like education with our smart schools, healthcare with patient-centric solutions, retail and hospitality with commercial displays and a wide range of cutting-edge IT solutions.
-Do You believe in “one-size-fits-all” solutions?
I would like to note that we do not believe in “one-size-fits-all” solutions. Every industry and every business requires its own specialist tools – both in terms of hardware and software. Thus we strive to provide secure solutions to contribute to businesses that will “wow”, stores that will engage, schools that will learn and hospitals that will remember.
All of these directions are closely linked to our other newfangled strategic direction in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). In the past two decades Samsung has emerged as a leader in the IT industry not only in terms of global sales but also in sustainability and its commitment to help communities in need. Samsung is fully devoted to addressing environmental and social challenges with responsible business practices.
-What Your products have numerously been recognized for?
Our products have numerously been recognized for their eco-design and energy-saving solutions, and we are further committed to introducing new advanced sustainable technologies and practices. Having said that, I would like to reiterate that Samsung always strives to act as a responsible neighbor in the countries of its operations. One of the most exemplary social contributions if the Samsung Hope for Children program that benefits around 200,000 children and young adults in the developing world in both education and healthcare and we will continue increasing our role in creating better lives for children around the globe.
-As we know, In Kazakhstan You are currently implementing a comprehensive CSR programme, Aren’t you?
In Kazakhstan We are currently implementing a comprehensive CSR programme for targeting education and healthcare. Samsung has established a scholarship programme for talented young adults from underprivileged background in top Kazakhstani universities with the prospect of internships and future employment with Samsung Electronics. In 2013 we have also unrolled a “Smart School” programme, where Samsung supplies full hard-and-software solutions for interactive education. The programme is implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and addresses government plans of introducing electronic learning tools in education. In 2013 Samsung equipped 2 schools with smart classes as well as a smart lab in one of the country’s top higher education institutions – Nazarbayev University.
–What is the role of Samsung Medical Center (SMC)?
Together with Samsung Medical Center (SMC) we have introduced a healthcare initiative entitled ‘Heart to Heart’ piloted in Mongolia and Kazakhstanin 2013. The project addresses the issue of medical treatment of children with congenital heart disease or major congenital anomaly, where specialists from SMC hold in-house and external trainings for local surgeons on advanced medical practices in the field.
In 2014 we will be expanding the geography of the programmes as well as introducing new projects in other Central Asian countries and Caucasus.
-What is Your opinion about the future of Kazakhstan economy, President’s strategy “ Kazakhstan- 2050 and “YAPRESIDENT. Com” on-line magazine?
Kazakhstan’s economic growth pace is one of the fastest in the region. The interesting trend is that, while still rationally harnessing natural resource wealth for economic transformation and development, Kazakhstan is strongly committed to developing other sectors, including ICT as well as advancing policies and practices of sustainable development. The inflow of investment in digitalizing education, healthcare and other sectors is increasing with every year. In my observation, Kazakhstan is always open and keen to exchange and adopt innovative approaches, policies and strategies and is rightfully considered the economic hub for the region.
In addition the country’s values and tactful approach has earned Kazakhstan a positive reputation with the international community as well as strong diplomatic ties with the rest of the globe. A lot of foreign and international business, including Samsung, is lured by the market potential and auspicious economic environment. I am positive that Kazakhstan has a lot of victories and achievements ahead.
Thank You very much for the interview! And Let’ us congratulate You on
“New Year Eve Holidays!”
